Matte Black is the New Black
In stark contrast to the white kitchens that are very popular in our area, The National Kitchen & Bath Show (KBIS) spotlighted what they feel will be a 2018 trend… matte black appliances. How can this be? Dated black appliances are the one thing homeowners want out as soon as they move in. But take out the shine, add a touch of upscale, and matte black…is the new black.
This look is not for everyone, but for customers who are in search of a fingerprint and smudge-resistant alternative to stainless steel your time has come. It is modern or transitional like the hood pictured from a kitchen remodel in Dover, MA or downright traditional with the fabulous oven. The matte finish feels a bit more like the chalkboards of yesteryear lending a certain nostalgia, grace and understated appeal! It offers the opportunity for kitchens to be less one note and offer texture and depth.
Let’s face it, Europe has been into colored appliances for far longer that the U.S. and if La Cornue can continue to tout its black ranges maybe we should take a hint. In the coming weeks we will continue to explore the new design trends for 2018 so stay tuned for inspiration for your next renovation.
